Very few people are ever given the time or permission to feel truly sad for as long as they need to. Our cultural habits and kind hearts spontaneously step in to dry their tears, hug them, distract them, and tell them “it will be ok” or perhaps, “just get over it”. Our responses and actions may make us feel better but do little to effectively help those who are sad. There are skillful, helpful ways to be with others who are in sorrow. Together, let’s explore them – and then practice them!
